My thoughts 19/2/2008
1) Ah Meng’s departure
- What is your reaction?
I felt shocked when the daily news reported the death of the star of the Singapore zoo, Ah Meng. When I was young, my family had often went to the Singapore zoo. Ah meng left me with many memorable memories that were deeply etched in my heart. As I reached its ‘territory’, it gave me a kiss on my cheek as its eyes glittered with amazing brightness. Those were the beautiful memories that I would never forget. She was one good ‘girl’, oh yes she was.
- Who do you think should be the successor of Ah meng?
I think the successor should be Inuka the polar bear. It would be well loved by the visitors and I think the visitors would share my opinion that Inuka the polar bear is both cute and adorable. What is your opinion?

Write about a birthday experience that was not as enjoyable as it might have been.
I sat outside the emergency room. Fear crept in the deep of my heart as I took a glimpse of mum’s worried face. My mind soon drifted off to the past.
Traipsing home drowsily, I felt not at all invigorated. It was my birthday! As I stepped into the house, a savoury smell worked its way to my nose. It was my mum cooking! She could whip up savoring, mouth-watering and tantalizing food you could ever imagine! Soon enough, I spotted a crunchy and enticing cookie. Famished, I reached out for it as mum, with impeccable timing, stopped me.
“Don’t you dare touch it. Those are for your friends! You eat those noodles,” she asserted. How I wish I could have the cookies instead. Sighing, I wolfed down the noodles while mum returned to her room.
‘Ding, Dong!’ the bell rang. Excitement filled me as I sprang for the door. Shouts of surprise rose as I welcomed my friends. They had not forgotten my birthday! Even my best friend, John was here. How ecstatic I felt!
Mum soon brought out lips-smacking cookies that entices your taste-buds. And after that, we had juicy and tender chicken that tasted so scrumptious. Moments later, a piquant strawberry aroma worked its way to our noses. It was a strawberry flavoured cake, covered with chocolates and strawberries. Enticed, I blew out the candles as a loud crash attracted my attention.
Many people say heaven often makes sports of humans. I did not know its meaning in the past. Until know had I realized what it meant. While blowing the candles, John slipped over a banana skin and fell back, as his head crashed into the window pane. Cries of alarms rang out as I looked at john, terrified. Fear had me cornered me. As if it had blinded me, I was clueless of what is going to happen to john. Blood oozed out from John’s forehead as everything passed like a flash. Awestruck, I sat beside him, feeling dumbfounded.
I sat outside the emergency room. Fear crept in the deep of my heart as I took a glimpse at mum’s worried face. The atmosphere was filled with eerie silence as it began to pall. Heart-broken, I stared at the doors of the emergency room as it opened with a crash.
I heaved a sigh of relief. As the saying goes,’ a burnt child dreads fire, ‘I doubt I would leave slippery objects carelessly on the floor again. Although John did not suffer from any serious injuries, I felt remorse for the pain he had to put up with. What a birthday!
